Honor

Honor, a word lost and replaced by Hate. The world seems to have so little of that these days. Hate for people in office, hate for people in authority, hate for fellow man. This goes back further than today, only today do we have more hate than we have honor.

I have the honor of calling this man a friend. I HAD the honor of sitting with him several weekends for almost two years as we chatted about family, friends, food and music. During these chats, our favorite things were of grandparents and our favorite dishes and how they were prepared. To top it all, his passion for music and life is what made our friendship even better. JJ Evans of Evans Music Productions and JJEVANSONLINE.COM , and I became working friends in Atlanta, prior to his move to Los Angeles. Earlier today, he posted these words on his Facebook page:

Hey Family!! Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whom I’ve admired all of my life! Let’s reflect on his contribution of love and equality and how we can continue his legacy in this present time. What better way to do it than by paying homage to one of my all-time favorite artists, the smooth cat himself, Marvin Gaye! I hope everyone enjoys it! Don’t forget to share with a friend!!#MLK#MarvinGaye#BeWhoYouAre😎 JJ Evans

Enjoy JJ’s cover of Marvin Gaye‘s What’s Goin On : Click Photo Above

Today, I hope someone will heed these words and have honor over hate.
Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate

SCATTERED

Las Vegas is home to countless artists and musicians.  Popping in to any local bar, lounge or club may just give you a night to remember; entertainment wise that is.

This group of talent performs in several other groups and shows along the Vegas Strip, most of whom you may have already seen, just not aware you have done so. Jeff Tortora, Corky G (Gainsford), Tony Carboney and Jacob Chidester have a combined talent that have crossed time and stages such as Blue Man Group, Tinnitus, Franky Perez, Code Red Riot, Otherwise, Jersey Boys, Tenors of Rock and many, many more. Coming together, they form Scattered. Thursday’s show will cover a vast selection of songs from
Switchfoot to Partridge Family, Prince to Powerman 5000, Nine Inch Nails to Alice in Chains, maybe a little bit of Sublime and a possible original.

Thursday night, January 17, catch Scattereds debut show along with openers Knee High Fox at Count’s Vamp’d. LA based band, Knee High Fox begin at 9:30 p.m. with Scattered taking the stage around 11:00 p.m. We’re positive you’ll hear something you know and something you like.

No excuses! See you there! Eat, Drink, Rock – Count’s Vamp’d!

Goodbye 2018! Who Was Our Fave Of The Year?

What a whirlwind of a year! So many shows, events and places traveled.

So few shared, but the biggest and most memorable for 2018 for Continuum Vegas, was in October when Rick Springfield performed in Las Vegas at Green Valley Ranch.

Rick-Springfield-Official-PR-

With a music career life accomplishment such as Rick Springfield with 17 albums, 6 compilation albums, 2 live albums, 1 soundtrack album, 34 singles, 1 #1 hit, 5 top 10 hits and 21 Billboard charting hits….need we say more?!  Well yes, YES WE do!

Springfield began inviting young attendees on stage several years ago during  Don’t Talk To Strangers  (perfect fit right), but this October night had to be the most memorable ever!  The October 20th stage was graced with two young fans,  Asher, age four and Malorie, age three!  Now that’s the way to raise a child; appreciating the finer arts of rock and roll and live music!  Thanks to the parents of Asher and Malorie for allowing us to share our favorite live moment of the year!  This was the second time three year old Malorie joined Springfield onstage and Asher definitely stole the show with his future rock star moves!

Want to see Springfield along with Asher and Malorie perform?  Lots of teary eyed stuff going on with this one.  We believe even the man himself had tears in his eyes.  We’ve had almost 6k views on our Facebook page, so we decided to upload the video to Youtube for even more shares!  Here’s to many more shows for the 69 year old rocker and more young fans like Asher and Malorie!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Here’s To A Safe & Happy 2019!

Remembering Freddie Mercury of Queen

Farrokh Bomi Bulsara

Twenty-seven years…

Queen-Freddie-Mercury--Live-Aid-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-Copyright-

November 23, 1991 the statement below was issued:

“Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue.” (1)

November 24, 1991, a mere 24 hours later, Publicist, Roxy Meades , announced to the world, “Freddie Mercury died peacefully at his home. His death was the result of bronchial-pneumonia, brought on by Aids.” (2)

Bohemian Rhapsody has dominated the box office since it’s release November 2.  It has accumulated a domestic total as of November 23, $143,379,253 (Estimated)(3) I give no spoilers, however, most can guess what will take place during the two-hour 14 minute block buster.  If you do not know the story of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon of Queen, now is the time to invest in a movie ticket and a concert, so to speak.  If you were lucky enough to have witnessed Live Aid via TV broadcast in July 1985, it will be like stepping into Wembley for a front row view!

One person I had the opportunity to meet just over a year ago, was definitely one of the lucky ones.  Photographer David Plastik was one who witnessed Live Aid at Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1985.  Plastik began his photography career in July 1980.  While in school, he set to work things out his own way.  1981 to 1984 he visited Europe every June, where he photographed many different festivals, concerts and events.  When Live Aid was announced, he decided to change plans and work his trip around the July date for 1985.  Plastik had made friends over the years and enjoyed the accommodations and camaraderie for the shows and had began his plans for that one July day.

While working for an International photo agency, they gladly supplied him with large lens and equipment needed for an event and size such as Live Aid.  July 13 arrived and Plastik was off to Wembley Stadium for a day of music like none other before, or like none other after.  Being billed as the “global jukebox”,  72,000 people filled the London England stadium while another 100,000 crammed into John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for and over 1.9 billion tuned in via televised broadcast across 150 nations.  Over 70 acts performed between Wembley and JFK Stadium with pop up performances from Japan, Germany and Australia which made it the broadcast of the biggest benefit concert in history, organized by Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (Ultravox) to raise funds for Ethiopian famine relief.  The amazing 16 hour event, of which Plastik stated he was there for over 18 hours for coverage, raised triple the £10m expected.  As the London event closed at Wembley Stadium, Britain had contributed £1,100,000 to the global total of £30m!

Queen-Freddie-Mercury-Brian-May-Live-Aid-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-Copyright

Plastik said times had definitely changed since 1985.  He walked into the event with a book-bag full of equipment and no photo pass.  Just a man, a ticket and cameras planted for the day near the sound board to capture some of the most memorable moments of a life changing event. Re-visit Live Aid moments through the eyes of the camera at vintagemusicimages.com  where all photos can also be purchased, not just for your viewing pleasure!  Connect with  Vintage Music Images on Facebook or Instagram at  davidplastik22 .  Vintage Music Images shares an unbelieveable gallery of photos not only of Live Aid, but a plethora of musicians, actors, actresses and celebrities.

Honoring All Veterans

Veterans Day.  What does this day mean to you?  Does it mean you have the long weekend with the Monday off?  Does it mean you have an early shopping day in preparation for Thanksgiving Day?  It’s not Memorial Day weekend where it’s warm and everyone is headed outdoors for a big BBQ kick off the summer.  It’s Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day.  An official public holiday observed on November 11 each year in the United States.  This day honors our military veterans; men and women who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.  The day is synchronized with Remembrance Day and Armistice Day, which is celebrated by other countries to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.  In 1918, on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, the armistice ended the fighting of WWI. 100 years ago yesterday! Some 21 years later, in September 1939, WWII began and the plot of this story.

This is a story of my Paw-Paw.  My grandfather by marriage, who may be titled as a step-grandfather, but to me, MY Paw-Paw.  Loyed Howard Bedford, served during the Burma Campaign.  Battles fought in the British Colony of Burma, in South East Asia,  to the south of China.   I heard many of his war stories when I was younger, as did my brothers, Haven and Chris Thomas.  We would listen to him tell of his journeys and wonder how he survived.  What touches my heart most is he is the fact he still shares his amazing stories which is the exact reason I decide to share this with others; to honor him and ALL Veterans.  Loyed-Howard-BedfordIn June of this year, Mitzi Tyler Jeter, a school mate I’ve not seen in over 38 years posted on Facebook about chatting with an older gentleman while shopping.  “I saw an older gentleman sitting on a bench alone.  He was wearing a cap with a Calvary insignia on it.  I walked over and asked him if he had been in the Calvary and he said yes.  I sat down, thanked him for his service and he began telling me a few stories.  He was in the Calvary in Indonesia, India and China, patrolling the Burma Road on a mule.  He fought the Japanese and transported supplies on these mules.  What wonderful stories!  He said he was 93. Loyed-Bedford-2018 I loved their stories and respected their service and grit!  They’re not going to be with us much longer, and I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done and want to hear more of their stories”.   After reading her post, I immediately knew this was my Paw-Paw she was writing about.  I was so excited to find out for sure this was definitely Loyed H. Bedford, after I shared
a recent photo of him with her.
He was a member of the Mars Task Force, The Calvary of the Burma Campaign.

Mule Skinners and Pack Animals of the MARS Task Ford-Burma Road January 1945-WWIICavalry Scouts used their special training to obtain, distribute, and share vital combat and battlefield information on the enemy and on combat circumstances and environmental conditions. Burma wasn’t always the typical hot blazing jungle as one may expect.  With elevations over 17,000 feet, some days water would freeze inside their canteens depending on the trail they would be assigned along the 117 miles of the Burma Road that linked Burma with southwest China.

Later  a new road was built in Northern Burma, The Ledo Road, which ran from Ledo, Assam through Myitkyina and connected to the old Burma Road at Wandingzhen, Yunnan, China.
Loyed-Howard-Bedford-Medals
From me, my family and friends, many thanks to my paw-paw and May God Bless him and all veterans.

Celebrating Birthdays Today Aug 25

Since ‘LIFE’ is a celebration and needs to be celebrated ‘LOUD’, what better way to give a celebratory ‘SHOUT’ to a few of rock and roll people sharing the same birthday today, August 25!  This will be something new  to share some fun and memories from contributing photographers that have captured these amazing artists along their career! While most will not have the elaborate information, enjoy today’s info!

Starting with the Northern Irishman that shreddeth!  Mr. Vivian Campbell who, of course, is the ‘New Guy’ in Def Leppard; even though he joined the band in 1992, lead singer, Joe Elliott,  still jokes with him being the new guy.  Vivian-Campbell-Copyright-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-used-by-permission-Continuum-Vegas-LAUKCampbell also performs with River Dogs (Rob Lamothe, Nick Brophy, Mark Danzeisen and former DIO mates Vinny AppiceJimmy Bain, and Claude Schnell with Andrew Freeman as lead singer.  Schnell, removed from the band was later replaced by Erik Norlander and sadly bassist, Jimmy Bain, passed away on January 23, 2016.  Later that year, Phil Soussan joined the ranks as bassist.  In earlier years, Campbell rocked many stages and albums with Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Sweet Savage and Shadow King.  Happy Birthday Vivian, who turns 56 today! Vivian is currently on tour with Def Leppard and Journey for their 2018 world tour.  (Photo courtesy/credit: David Plastik/VintageMusicImages; 1983)

Rob Halford of Judas Priest still blasting the stage with his amazing voice since 1969.  Yes, you read that correctly! Rob-Halford-Judas-Priest-Copyright-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-by -permission-Continuum-Vegas-LAUK Priest was founded in 1969 by bassist Ian Hill and guitarist KK DowningHalford joined a bit later and in 1974 debuted with their first single Rocka Rolla, from the album by the same name.  Priest is currently on tour with the US stint of the tour ending September 30 in Wheatland, California at the Toyota Ampitheater before heading worldwide. Happy Birthday Rob, who turns 67 today.  (Photo credit/courtesy: David Plastik / VintageMusicImages: 1984)

Third on the celebration today is Geoff Downes, keyboardist for The Buggles, Yes and AsiaDownes is probably best known by the MTV generation for Buggles 1979 worldwide hit Video Killed The Radio Star which was the video that launched MTV on August 1, 1981.  Geoff-Downes-Asia-Buggles-YES-Copyright-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-by-permission-Continuum-Vegas-LAUKDownes and bandmate Trevor Horn received an invitation from Chris Squire to join Yes, which led the the recording of the Drama album, released in August 1980.  After the split of Yes, Downes united with Carl Palmer, John Wetton and Steve Howe to form Asia with immediate success from the recording of Heat of the Moment. Now how is that for a resume?  Happy Birthday Geoff, who turns 66 today. (Photo credit/courtesy: David Plastik / VintageMusicImages: 1982)

Next on our list is Declan Patrick MacManus…known as Elvis CostelloCostello is an musician, singer, songwriter, composer, record producer, author, television presenter, and occasional actor.  Another fabulous resume!  His career began in the early 70’s with his debut album, My Aim True, being released in 1977, which he then formed his backing band, The AttractionsElvis-Costello-Copyright-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-by-Permission-Continuum-Vegas-LAUK Costello and The Attractions ( Steve Nieve, Bruce Thomas & Pete Thomas, were inducted in the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, however his new backing band changed with Davey Faragher replacing Bruce Thomas in 1996 and changed the name of the backing band to The Imposters.  While his career spans the decades with tours, festivals, hits and awards, earlier this year, Costello announced a tour with The Imposters in support of new album, Look Now.  The tour is being called ‘Look Now and Then… It’s Elvis Costello & The Imposters’, which will kick off November 2 in Betelehem, Pa. and end in Vancouver, BC. on December 4.  Looking for new Costello music, fans can pre-order the album along with concert tickets in a special bundle, exclusively on elviscostello.com . (Photo credit/courtesy: David Plastik / VintageMusicImages: 1985)

The fini of the day belongs to Gene Simmons (Gene Klein/Chaim Witz)The Demon, The God of Thunder, Dr. Love or Reginald Van Helsing…he’s been called these and I’m sure many more!  Simmons and Paul Stanley co-founded KISS who were joined by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss which became one of the best selling bands of all times, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Gene-Simmons-KISS-Copyright-David-Plastik-Vintage-Music-Images-by-permission-Continuum-Vegas-LAUK KISS was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10, 2014.  Simmons himself, is remarkable with his business sense, several TV appearances between 1974 to 2016, as well as many movie roles.  Younger generations mostly associate the man from his six year run of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, which began in 2006 with then long time live ‘mother of his children’, now wife, Shannon Tweed along with son Nick Simmons and daughter Sophie Simmons. His business ventures include a publicity campaign with Indy Racing League, partnering with Stanley and investors to create Rock & Brews (restaurant/concert venue) as well as being a published author.  Just last year he announced The Vault, a 50 year time capsule of his entire catalog of music, some published and some never released.  This is definitely something for a hard core fan…if you’re ready to dish out two grand for it!   The man has been a name of controversy over the years; you either love The Demon or you hate him.  Happy Birthday Gene, who turns 69 today.  (Photo credit/courtesy: David Plastik / VintageMusicImages: 1984)
