Host, Phil Varone, introduces the opener for the night, Queens Riot.  This all female group will definitely remind you of a bit of rock and roll yesteryear with power packed rock reminiscent of The Runaways, Vixen, Femme Fatale & Pat Benetar.  Their set list included: Never Say Die -Black Sabbath, California Paradise, Blackmail, Gettin’ Hot, and Neon AngelsThe Runaways, Strutter-KISS and Bad ReputationJoan Jett.   Queens Riot members include: Mariah Baldwin / Vocals, Maya Martillini / Lead Guitar, Angelica Santis / Bass Guitar, Tracey Hope / Drums.

The Electric Radio Kings were next to rock the stage!  This powerful Las Vegas based group features ex-L.A. Guns guitarist Stacey Blades.  Packing the vocals is Paul Christiana who has worked with Blades since 2013 with stellar songwriting methodology.  Completing the band is Keith Horne / guitar, Del Cheetah / Bass (Sex Slaves) and Johnny Rude / drums (Salem Saints).  The fit and fire between these guys was amazing and being the first chance to catch their live performance   Dynamic vocals and commanding performance by all which excited the crowd, keeping them ready for more of the rock sound most new bands are missing.    Their set list included Downshifter, Round Go Mary, Grabbing At A Distant Star, Bones To The Crow, Sympathy For Me, Jack Black Flower, Black Cherri Blossom, and Flame.

In-between sets, Host Phil Varone entertained the conflux of fans with giveaways to keep the energy high.  Grand Prize being tickets to Alice Cooper’s show the next night.  Gathered in support for CO-OP was Alice Cooper, wife Sheryl and daughter Calico along with Dash’s wife Morgan, twin sons and new-born son!  What a VIP event for this family! It was an incredible sight to see them gather on the red carpet and honored to have witnessed the moment.

Cooper-Family-David-Ellefson-Cooper-Band-Red-Carpet

Dash Cooper‘s CO-OP formed in 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. and battled it out musically as they did their own sound and within a few years shared the stage with KISS, Hollywood Vampires and Mötley Crüe.  This band incorporates the talents of Jeremy Tabor / guitar, Justin Swartzentruber / bass, Cory Michalski / drums and of course founder and frontman Dash Cooper / vocals.  Signing with David Ellefson‘s EMPLabel Group and recording their debut album, it was now time to celebrate the band of the night.  Varone has one last introduction and CO-OP takes the stage.  Forceful, compelling, dynamic and with compelling melodic vocals.  The throng of onlookers were completely into the moment.  Their 12 song set list gave the night a sweeping moment of achievement.  Don’t be confused and imagine it’s another Alice Cooper and band on stage.  CO-OP stands their ground with a classic rock meets hard rock meets grunge.  Opening with N.O.W. from their new album, the picture painted here would be the future of seeing these guys performing in an arena;  they are just that good!  Performing several songs from the new release as well as throwing in a couple of covers of Muse‘s Hysteria and Cochise by Audioslave and closing with their own Overdrive.  The night’s set list included N.O.W., Condemned, Secret Scars, Never Whisper The Truth, Hysteria, Cochise, Sleep, Pitiful, Howl, Outlaw, Old Scratch, and Overdrive.  While Alice himself didn’t join his son on stage for this show, it’s all about Dash and CO-OP.  They came, they delivered, they rocked!

Dollar Loan Center, Alice Goldstein Events and EMP Lable Group  presents a FREE show with Red Carpet arrivals at 7:00 p.m., with live performances from CO-OP and special guests. CO-OP will rip through a full set of tracks from their debut album, in stores now from EMP LABEL GROUP, including hit singles “N.O.W”, which reached #4 on the national Classic Rock charts in June, and their current single, “HOWL” featuring legendary Aerosmith/Hollywood Vampires guitarist Joe Perry, which hit the Top 5 (#4) on the Classic Rock charts last week, as well as the top 40 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator Chart.   The album also features guest vocals from Alice Cooper on the track, “Old Scratch”.  CO-OP has become a sensation in the Rock world in 2018 since the release of “N.O.W”, with a video that premiered on LOUDWIRE, and features an intro and cameo from Alice himself, an actual song introduction from Cooper’s nationally syndicated radio show NIGHTS WITH ALICE COOPER, where the song was in full rotation as a “Future Classic”.

States Alice, “One thing that Dash’s band has that I absolutely love, is dynamics. I told them one time early on, I said, “guys, right now you have great parts, but everybody is playing at the same time. You have no dynamics, it’s one big solid line of blast, and I can barely hear the vocals.” The very next time I heard them play, they figured out how to make it dynamic, where they’d go down to one guitar, doing a chug, with the vocals going, and they would come right in with a B section, with everybody, and it was so powerful. And I said, “guys, you have no idea how hard it is to do that.” But they did it on every song. And they still do it.” He adds, “It’s really great. Even on the radio show I said, “I’m not just playing this because it’s my son’s band, it’s playing because I really like this.” I really like this music. It’s a band with some fire.”

Since forming in 2014, the current lineup feathers Dash Cooper (Lead Vocals) Jeremy Tabor (Guitar), and Justin Swartzentruber (Bass), CO-OP quickly amassed a following in the local Phoenix scene. Despite just rounding the corner with a full-length studio debut, CO-OP are seasoned rock veterans.   Opening massive shows for the likes of Motley Crue, Hollywood Vampires and KISS; as well as full US tours with Doll Skin, One-Eyed Doll, Flaw and more.  CO-OP has also served as an impromptu backup band for artists such as Alex Lifeson from Rush, Don Felder of The Eagles, and of course, Alice Cooper.  In addition to frequently performing as Alice’s backup band, Alice will frequently jam at CO-OP shows.   This past February, the band played halftime at a Phoenix Suns game, where they performed Cooper classics “School’s Out” and “I’m Eighteen” with co-vocals by Alice and Dash . CO-OP also performed a full live set at Gila Bend Arena in 2017 for Phoenix NHL franchise the Arizona Coyotes. Very impressive for a band who just released their first record and an EP while setting out to work on their full-length debut the same year .  Later in 2017, the band signed to EMP LABEL GROUP, the same label of David Ellefson of Megadeth.   Says Ellefson, “Alice Cooper took Megadeth out on our first big tour, and we’ve always had a great relationship. Alice wrote the foreword to my book,  MY LIFE WITH DETH, so it’s been really exciting to be able to bring that relationship full circle and work with Dash and CO-OP, who have grown into an incredible rock band.”

Last In Line with Code Red Riot at Count’s Vamp’d

April has become an anniversary month, so to speak, for Last In Line to return to Vegas and blow down the walls.  This year the walls at Vamp’d took a double blow from a huge local favorite, Code Red Riot!  This was not your typical Friday the 13th Party!

vampd-last-in-line-april-2018.jpg

Code Red Riot is ‘Corky G’ Gainsford /vocals, Tyler ‘Taz’ Azure / guitar, Jon ‘Woz’ Wozniak / bass, Anthony ‘Ant’ Raya / drums.  This foursome is a force to reckon with and always a trip for the musical senses.  I last saw them at Las Rageous 2017 and were eager to see them perform again after missing their last show at the House of Blues.  Their full rock sound with Gainsford‘s vocal talents has rocketed this band as a local favorite; it’s like watching a smooth running machine powered by adrenaline and driven by conviction!  Be sure to check out their single Living Low  and request it on your local airwaves!  Available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.

Original Dio members Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appice formed Last In Line in re-formed in early 2012 with very few rehearsals before their first gig. I got the info directly from Campbell in a prior interview in 2013.  “We’ve been playing around about a year, but no rehearsals.  We get together about once every two months for about three hours since the first day we got back together.   We could have probably done a gig that night; it was like riding a bicycle.”   The band was very well-known for their extreme power and volume back in the day and Campbell stated that had not changed.  “Vinny is the loudest drummer I’ve ever played with.  That was the nature of the band it back in the day.  We were of one of those old-fashioned, old school, loud rock bands.  That was before anyone used an ear monitor or anything fancy like that. Fortunately, Ronnie Dio was the kind of singer who had the lung capacity to be able to belt it out over a band that loud.  Honestly compared to the volume of Def Leppard, it is nothing compared to the volume coming off the stage of Last In Line.   Andrew Freeman stepped into the role of vocalist, along with Erik Norlander on keyboards and Phil Soussan on bass, who replaced the late Jimmy Bain.

Last-In-Line-Vampd-April-2018-Big-Time-Photo-8

Just as Campbell states, Last In Line is loud and intense.  Starting their night with Stand Up and Shout, the full house roars in approval.  Freeman is spot on with his vocals, in fact, the entire band is killing it!  Fast paced, pounding and loud; the only way to describe Last In Line.  I could go on telling things those as a Dio aficionado or middle of the road follower would even know, but what’s the point!  Everyone knows Vivian Campbell shreds like there’s no tomorrow; Vinny Appice slays the drums and the remaining members are such an attribute to what Last In Line is all about; the music.

Last-In-Line-Vampd-April-2018-Big-Time-Photo-9

We’re certainly doing this for the right reasons, we enjoy playing together and we’re doing it for the love of the music.  Ronnie didn’t write those guitar licks.  I get so frustrated sometimes at people’s ignorance about this.  They weren’t there, they don’t know the situation and no situation is ever black and white.  Those are our records.  We wrote those songs with Ronnie.  It may have been his name, Dio, on those albums, but he didn’t create that music on his own.  It is our heritage and this is us reclaiming it.” It was our music and nobody has more of a right to play it than us, and frankly no one is ever going to play it better than us.  This is the closest as anyone is ever going to get to the original Dio band.”   – Vivian Campbell

Count’s Vamp’d Rocks, Rolls & Remembers

Count's-Vamp'd

Count’s Vamp’d is the most iconic Rock Bar in Las Vegas.  Owners, Kori Koker and Danny Koker, bring the best live rock and roll, be it a local or national band.

March was another exceptional month with Frank Hannon of Tesla, Count’s 77, (Danny ‘The Count’ Koker and his band), the long awaited return of Tinnitus,  Dizzy Reed of Guns N Roses,  with his side project Hooker’s and Blow, along with the ever celebrated event of Brian Tichy‘s Randy Rhoads Remembered, as well as several other notable bands crossing the Vamp’d stage.

Tesla‘s own Frank Hannon commands his time on stage for a intimate setting and performance with almost two hours of music in support of his current solo album release.   From One Place… to Another Vol. 1 is the first of three albums to be released in 2018 and features special guest appearances by Paul Jackson (Blackberry Smoke), Duane Betts (son of Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band), Matthew and Gunnar Nelson (sons of Ricky Nelson), Roger Fisher (original Heart guitarist) and many others.  Personally, anything that Hannon plays on his many guitars is perfectly fine with me!  He makes them sing and takes me back to a few years ago, *wink*, with the acoustic opening for Tesla’s Love Song.

When Jeff Tortora tours, he tours the world with The Blue Man Group and when he plays at Vamp’d, he’s usually playing with Tinnitus!  This out of the ordinary group is sometimes macabre and may have a cirque like show presentation which leaves every attendee on the edge of their seat with a ring of the ears and a delight of the eyes! The regular line up for the band include Tortora, Andrew Gomez, Robert Gomez, Todd Waetzig, Charles Henry and Brenda Fitz;  however, each avant-garde production may provide the audience with as many as 20 to 30 musicians, artists, acrobats and oddities.

Count’s 77 is Danny “The Count” Koker, Stoney Curtis, John Zito, Paul DiSibio, Barry Barnes and Tommy Paris.  These guys are definitely at home on any stage, however, to be at home on the Vamp’d stage brings the local fans in an assemblage to rival all others!  If you find they will be playing at a venue near you, best grab your ticket quick and be ready for some bluesy rock and roll, down home style!  I’ve had the opportunity to interview and work on photo shoots with these wonderfully talented guys and there is none better than this group for smiles and laughs!

Hookers & Blow;  yes you read that correctly!  That’s Dizzy Reed‘s side project outside of his GnR time.  Guns N’ Roses keyboardist, Reed and his band Hookers & Blow, co-founded with Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi and  bassist Todd Kerns (Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators), drummer Johnny Kelly (Danzig) and bassist Chip Z’Nuff (Enuff Z’nuff).  However, Scott Griffin filled the bass slot for this show as well as That Metal Show‘s Don Jamieson.   Having the chance to see this group a couple or three times a year makes me realize how lucky Vegas is to have a rock and roll bar that brings such great music to the city!

November 2013, the creators of Bonzo Bash, Brian Tichy and Joe Sutton came together to bring one of the most exciting memorialzations of the year!  Randy Rhoads Remembered; a night in tribute to the guitar legend.  Rudy Sarzo, one of Rhoads‘ dearest friends, Rhoads‘ brother, Kelle Rhoads along with a multitude of other musicians come together to bring a moment of entertainment with the retrospection of the accomplishments of a friend, brother and musician having left us 36 years ago now.

VIP Party w/ Phil X of Bon Jovi @ Hyde T-Mobile Arena

T-Mobile Arena turned back the clocks on St. Patrick’s Day to the 80’s for a night with Bon Jovi!  Over 18,000 in attendance including a maximum capacity VIP event hosted by AGE / Alice Goldstein EntertainmentBeau Joie Champagne and Hyde T-Mobile.

AGE-Bon-Jovi-VIP-1

The Red Carpet event gave attendees a meet and greet opportunity with Bon Jovi‘s guitarist, Phil X.  A Las Vegas resident, Xenidis, joined the band in 2013 and was quickly received by Bon Jovi fans the world over. To have a local celebrity who happens to be a Bon Jovi band member, for the first hour of the event, made the night even more exciting! Goldstein has brought several VIP parties to Hyde Lounge in T-Mobile the past several months and this event gave party goers an over the top night of friends, old and new with amazing music and fabulous champagne to open the festivities!  The beautiful copper encased bottles of French Beau Joie Champagne Brute Rose and Brute NV flowed freely as VIP guests arrived for the Red Carpet immediately following the meet and greet. This “beautiful joy” may be made in Epernay, France, however, this sui generis cuvee bubbly is a masterpiece of Nevada’s own Toast Spirits, located in Henderson, Nevada.

Bon Jovi 2018 ‘This House Is Not For Sale’ Tour opens with the title track to their latest album, This House Is Not For Sale.  The arena screams with approval and for 90 minutes, it was a venture through the ages, all the way back to 1986 from the Slippery When Wet time to present day.  Definitely missing out on the 1984 and 1985 years without hearing Runaway and In and Out of LoveBon-Jovi-Continuum-Vegas-LA-UK-T-Mobile-AGE-VIP- However, the songs performed, brought back memories of years gone by with some of the best music of the past three decades.  Current line up for Bon Jovi include Jon’s childhood pal, David Bryan / piano & keyboards, with whom Jon said ‘We’ve known each other since we carried lunch boxes together on our way to school’, Tico Torres / drums, Hugh McDonald / bass guitar, Phil X / lead guitar, with touring musicians John Shanks / rhythm & lead guitar and Everett Bradley / percussion and backing vocals. The man himself, Jon Bon Jovi, gave an arena full of fans a night to remember.  Appearing about 15 rows deep on the right side of the stage, he belts out Amen and Bed of Roses as nearby devotees have a sight to behold.  One lucky lady gets a personal serenade and quick kiss on the lips as the next hands him a dozen red roses.  He’s back to the stage and the night carries on.
Setlist for the night:  This House Is Not For Sale, Knockout, You Give Love a Bad Name, Whole Lot of Leavin’, Lost Highway, When We Were Us, Born to Be My Baby, Who Says You Can’t Go Home, It’s My Life, We Weren’t Born  to Follow, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, We Got It Goin’ On, Keep the Faith, Amen, Bed of Roses, Lay Your Hands on Me, God Bless This Mess, Have a Nice Day, and Bad Medicine. Encore:  Wanted Dead or Alive, Livin’ on a Prayer and New York, New York.
Continuum Vegas/LA/UK would like to thank and congratulate Alice Goldstein for another fabulous social event with exceptional music and atmosphere!  We are unquestionably ready for the next one!
